'Silhouettes'
BY MATS GUSTAFSON
EXHIBITion AT STANDBY, TOKYO
In 'Silhouettes', Swedish artist Mats Gustafson interprets TOTEME’s Fall Winter 25 collection through watercolors that distill each look to its purest form: shape, proportion, and texture. Presented alongside film from the Paris runway show, the works transform precise garments into organic gestures, highlighting both the structure and ease that define TOTEME. Gustafson’s poetic minimalism reveals TOTEME’s silhouettes as emblematic of the everyday – natural and composed, timeless and new – its pared-back forms profoundly expressive.
Mats Gustafson is a Swedish artist known for an elegant and minimalist aesthetic that redefined the language of fashion illustration. Emerging in the late 1970s, he brought new life to the medium through restrained interpretations of line and texture. His work has appeared internationally and been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world. Gustafson lives in New York and Stockholm.
'Silhouettes' is TOTEME’s first art exhibition in Tokyo.
